Charity

The SARDA Story:
South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA) was established 37 years ago by a mother, Belinda Sampson, whose son, Andrew suffered from cerebral palsy. From a humble beginning of 5 disabled riders SARDA Cape Town today deliver services to 200 disabled riders from 15 special needs schools in the Cape Town region, per week and we have 4 branches in South Africa.

SARDA relies on 150 volunteers to assist the disabled children during the riding lessons.
These 150 volunteers help in the training of disabled children from disabled communities with their 14 donated horses. People with disabilities, benefit enormously from the therapeutic benefits of horse riding. Over 200 muscles are being exercised while riding, improving posture, balance and help with the development of fine and gross motor skills.

Riding also improves self-esteem, communication and group interaction skills. 74% of the disabled riders come from previously disadvantaged communities.

Visit the SARDA Website for more information about SARDA.
